Ok I am going to have to sack my photographer but on second thoughts she did manage to get us both in shot so maybe I should than her instead - thanks Cassan.
So I went to see Marques Toliver the other night and he was breath taking - I knew I would have to see him live from the moment I first saw him. I love seeing people live it adds soo much... you appreciate them soo much more and hopefully you being their let's them know that they are appreciated!
He feels the music somewhere deep inside him - I actually believe it is in his veins - it's litterally oozing out of him, even when he stops you feel like something is going round in his head others don't know about. He used so many different instruments to create an almost magical sound, some of which I had never seen in my life! and soo simply but so strong he used his feet to add percussion, stomping soo hard I could feel it in my heart ... it really gave a bass line to some of the tracks I wouldn't have even thought of underlaying a beat too.
He was a really sweet guy, soo friendly, modest and down to earth too. In my geeky way I had to stop and chat to him like a nervous and excitable teen. His speaking voice is almost melodic, up and down like someone who performs spoken word. With some delays and drawn out words and a lil twang that would accompany one raised eyebrow lol. OK I am rabbiting on now... so I am going to link to a couple of his videos. I have one or two on my phone but it's just sooo loud because i was right up front... i need to work out how to play with levels and balance that shizzle out... hmmm
This is him performing two of of my fave songs, the first featuring his strong foot and an instrument I do not know the name off lol. If you are London way you can see him at Tabernacle on September 13th - it is a school night so I can't go booo!
