Victoria Baths and the Knitted Poem.

A few weeks back I posted about going to see the knitted poem on tour. I actually went and just realised I never actually posted about it so I thought I would share a few pics now.

I went and took one of my nieces with me actually. It was freezing, but we did a little treasure hunt so we could explore and warm up and I think she liked the big knitted poem too!

This was the entrance hall. It was soo gorgeous look at all of those rich green, glistening tiles. I love tiles and the effect of these was very opulent. (if that's the word)- Everything was just soo beautiful even the doors and the payment entrance and the turnstiles, I can't believe people used to come here just to have a wash or do their dirty laundry!
It was later used for swimming events and competitions and I love the fact that there are big balconys for spectators. (Surely the fact that it was used for swimming goes with out saying as it is a swimming baths but I didn't want you to think with the last comment that it was a glorified  laundrette hehe) It's also hard to believe that it was once open for school swimming lessons - I wonder if I would have even appreciated it as a child? Hmmm it is better than my local baths where you feel like hopping just so you don't catch a verruca then you get in the bath and someones scabby plaster comes wafting towards your face....

Anyway....

Above is the Spa - I think it's been used for the odd tv drama now but such a waste... I would have happily passed out from the heat in there. It was gorgeous I loved all the blues and the greens and the atmosphere in there. There were atleast two spas next to each other and in both rooms if you looked up there was a huge stained glass windows letting in light. I was also loving the water fountain outside the rooms - I would actually want to drink from it - and I'm a bit funny about water fountains.

There was lots of detail everywhere you looked.. the floors.. especially the mosaiced floors at the entrance were divine. There was lots of stained glass everywhere and random artifacts like old doors and toilets and this neon sign too.. don't know why that was there...
And finally in this photo overload of a post...the knitted poem!
Ohh and one more of my niece giving it a feel to check it was real :-)
