What's YOUR Story Morning Glory

So I went to the library the other day to get my "living book" (I was quite excited the little saddo that I am) You went and there was tea and biscuits (a bonus because I always feel like it's naughty to eat or drink in a library) and you could look through a little booklet and read a little blurb about who was there.

I think I made a boo boo in my choice... he was a lovely, lovely man and I met some nice people whilst chatting to him but he was a man from Caribbean who travelled over to England to start a new life..errr hello that's your parents story lol. Turns out he lives down the road from us now, is the same age as dad and travelled over in the same way. He also lived a stones throw from my mum in the sixties! Hehe.

Despite all that I still enjoyed it and I learnt a lot because two other people came to sit with me and they decided to share their stories too. So I got three for the price of one and the others had really interesting, quite juicy stories :-) One was actually on the show "Come dine with me" and he had travelled the world and lived all over so obviously I will have to watch that one on catch up tv.

But the other things I learnt were.....
  1. How important it is to write a diary/blog... despite not even being that old he couldn't remember it all, man I can't even remember what happenend last week, but he had kept a diary at that age and was able to refer to it before he came.. he had travelled by boat and he could detail everywhere he stopped, what he enjoyed doing on the boat and who he met by looking back at this diary!
  2. To get my parents stories - I never got to hear my grandparents story and sometimes you take it for granted the stories they have to tell... (it's just sometimes when my mum starts she doesn't stop :-)
  3. I learnt how lucky I have it and how important family are - some people have things much tougher than you realise but family can help make things better for you and sometimes you don't even acknowledge or appreciate it. One of the guy's did something amazing to give thanks to his relatives and it warmed my heart bless him!
  4. How crucial it is to make the most out of life one of the guys said " if i was told i only had two weeks to live i would die a happy man because i have shown my family love, made them smile and I have travelled and lived in a place i love." gosh I hope that one day I could say the same.
  5. It's nice to talk to strangers- you don't have to be friends with them for life but how often do you just meet random strangers and here their life stories with actually quite personal details.
Yes all of these things are really obvious but sometimes it's just nice to remember and reinforce them.
